My wife and I moved to Northlake, Texas in the Harvest development in March of 2016. At that time, the land Northlake Commons sits on was cow pasture with pond. There weren’t many residences built up in Harvest yet. When we learned that Northlake Commons was coming, my wife and I thought it might be a great chance for us to open a nail salon. We saw it as a chance for our business to grow along with this new, burgeoning community. We rushed to make the phone call to OES the same day the very first sign went up.

We had never built a business from the ground up before. We had a lot of anxiety and so many questions. It can be so intimidating when you have an idea about what you want to accomplish and build, but you don’t know where to start or how to close the vast space between your dream, and making the dream come true. OES was the partner we needed to get us there.

OES was there for us every step of the way from site planning, helping us determine the right size for our space, helping us learn, and guiding us through permitting, architecture, and marketing. The partnership doesn’t end there. OES is there when you need them anytime you have a question or an issue. The relationship we’ve forged with OES has led us to expand our business with them. What started out as just a couple of people with a dream and a whole lot of uncertainty, has grown into an expanding, thriving business that we never would have thought possible and our relationship with OES has been invaluable in helping us make it happen. Q: Were you concerned about committing to opening your business in a developing area?

A: Not, really. I knew that this was a growing area and I really wanted to have my business store front here in Northlake Commons.

Q: If so, what were those concerns?

A: The only ones that I can think of would be the cost of the build-out and having enough funds to pull it off with only being in business for 3 to 4 years at the time deciding to open the office.

Q: How did you overcome your concerns?

A: Taking my time in the build out process and working on a tight budget. It didn't hurt that after I signed the contract in Feb of 2020 covid happened in Mar of 2020 which extended my time frame as well.

Q: What advice would you give to a small business owner when they are considering leasing in a development which is in its beginning stages?

A: Make sure that you are aware that it will take some time to build up your business unless you have been in business awhile. In a new developing area it will take awhile to build up clientele.

Q: How do you think your business has benefited from being one of the first to open at Northlake Commons?

A: One benefit is being able to pick the best location in the Commons and have 407 frontage. What has been nice for me is my name on my building and being able to be the market in the local areas and everyone knew who I was before the office opened. Then not to mention being a part of the community and living in the community from the start.
